I just got home a little bit ago from the Walk for Water in Edwardsville. It was a really cool experience. It's a 4-mile replication of how people in lesser developed nations walk for water every day. My team and I walked 2 miles, got to the midpoint and filled our 2 gallon containers with water, walked back another 2 miles carrying said water.
At one point I was talking to a co-founder of Project-Restore and he said that if I saved up some money I could go with them the next time they go to Uganda! He got my email address so we'll be keeping in touch.
Carrying 2 gallons of water for 2 miles isn't easy, and that's less the amount of water and less the mileage than these people walk. I don't know how they do it, I guess they find the will for survival inside of them.
I'll definitely be doing this next year.
