My favorite book, well one of them. Both of my favorite books are by Donald Miller (if that says anything). Blue Like Jazz is a book of nonreligious thoughts on Christian spirituality.
This book was recommended by my friend Josie, and it was the foundation for my spiritual faith. Well, I grew up in a Christian home, and I knew all of the basics of Christianity. There came a time when I had to question myself, "Is this really what I believe? Or is it just what I've been raised in?". Blue Like Jazz was one of the main contributing factors, so I hold this book very high.
Tonight I gave it to one of my friends. I wrote on the inside cover, "Merry Christmas, Now you have to read it", and I put a nice little smiley face so he knew I was just giving him a hard time. He's been saying, Yeah I need to read that book... Well I gave it to him.
I just hope that the words sink in and he takes something from it. I hope it gives him the answers that I can't.
I may have told you this once, but a Christian friend I met in college loaned me this book when he found out I was agnostic. It didn't change anything of course, but I still really enjoyed it. It was a good reminder that the sane Christians still exist, and everyone needs to read it regardless of their faith.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I remember you telling me that.
